Surabaya zoo is one of the most complete zoo in Indonesia, and even a South East Asia. Here there are 351 different species of animals that consists of more than 2806 animals.

Establishment of the zoo can not be separated from the services of a journalist named H. F. K. Kommer is a hobby of collecting different animals. Finally, based on the Decree of the Governor-General of the Dutch on August 31, 1916 no. 40, the zoo was founded under the name “Soerabaiasche Planten-en Dierentuin”, which means that botanical gardens and animal Surabaya.
